CARLO SARACENI
The halls at Rome’s Palazzo Venezia are hosting the first monographic exhibition of the great Venetian artist Carlo Saraceni. He was greatly influenced by Caravaggio with works featuring dramatic contrasts of shadow and light and worked on commission from the Vatican for the most part. His vast artistic output – from his large altarpieces to his small elegant works in copper – are linked to important artistic episodes such as his fresco at the Quirinal Palace’s Sala Regia. They offer a slice of early 17th century Figurative Art in Rome. His paintings are also found in Rome’s Santa Maria dell’Anima church and San Lorenzo in Lucina basilica.
