FRANCO MULAS. S-paesaggi. Landscapes 1980 – 2013

July 30th, 2013

FRANCO-MULAS_ENG

The landscapes by Franco Mulas on exhibit in Rome’s Museo Carlo Bilotti are the last leg of a long and restless quest of an artist who has been a faithful witness of his times. The Italian title of the exhibition, S-paesaggi, is a play on words that can be loosely translated as landscapes/DIS-orientation. The 45 medium-sized and large oil paintings on panels displayed bear witness to the way the world and artistic practice are viewed by an “extremely modern old-fashioned painter”. Fragments of landscapes that are dramatic and disorientating with respect to any conjecture of reconciliation with the present, whose dehumanizing dismemberment is denounced by the painter.
