Caravaggio Exhibition in Rome

January 26th, 2010

Caravaggio

The year 2010 will be the year of celebration for the 400 years since the death of the great artist Michelangelo Merisi, known as Caravaggio.
From the 20th of February to the 13th of June at the Scuderie del Quirinale it will be possible to see 30 of 40 of the works painted by the Lombard artist at the exhibition entitled CARAVAGGIO.
Among the representative works of the great artist which will be exposed, the Bacco degli Uffizi, Davide with the Head of Goliath from the Galleria Borghese, the Musicians from the Metropolitan and the Dinner of Emmaus from the National Gallery of London.
The exhibition also includes works never seen before, like the Child and the Basket of fruit of the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana in Milan, which for the first time leaves his seat.
Caravaggio considered a revolutionary artist for its time, because “terribly natural”, embodies the essence of the subjects of his paintings and atmospheres in which the plasticity of the figures id highlighted by special lighting that dramatically emphasizes the volumes of bodies that come suddenly from the darkness of the scene.
The exhibition presented is intended to draw more public attention and criticism on the famous and celebrated “Lombard Genius”, from a perspective radically innovative and updated.
