RAPAHEL, PARMIGIANINO, BAROCCI. METAPHORS OF THE GAZE

October 27th, 2015

RAFFAELLO_ENG

Three titans of Italian art in an unprecedented comparison. Paintings, drawings and prints tell the story of an intense connection involving Raphael, Francesco Mazzola (known as Parmigianino) and Federico Barocci – both of whom were recognized by older sources as being the heirs to the artist born in Urbino. The association of these three artists is being presented at an exhibit hosted in Rome’s Capitolini Museums that illustrates an encounter of different visions: those of ancient artists towards the works of Parmigianino and Barocci and their connection to Raphael, those of the two artists towards the works of Raphael and, ultimately, the gaze of all three of these artists towards spectators (it can be seen in the selected self-portraits on display). Selected paintings were specifically chosen, such as Barocci’s Annunciation and Rest on the Flight to Egypt (on loan from the Vatican Museums), to recall the main themes offered by the graphics.

HENRY MOORE

October 20th, 2015

Twenty years after the last Italian exhibition dedicated to Henry Moore (1898–1986), a monographic show on the English sculptor will be presented at Rome’s Baths of Diocletian in Rome featuring 75 works including sculptures, drawings, water colours and prints. The exhibition will cover Moore’s entire creative output. He is considered to be one of the 20th century’s most prominent sculptors due to his technical ability and ingenious combination of abstraction and studies of the human form. His sculptures, some of which are of monumental dimensions, engage in an exchange with the spectacular Grand Halls of the Baths of Diocletian and with ...

LO STATO DELL’ARTE, L’ARTE DELLO STATO. LE ACQUISIZIONI DEL MINISTERO DAL 2000 AL 2014 (STATE OF THE ART AND THE ART OF THE STATE. ACQUISITIONS BY THE MINISTRY OF CULTURAL HERITAGE FROM 2000 TO 2014)

October 13th, 2015

The exhibit at Castel Sant’Angelo in Rome aims to illustrate to the general public the intense efforts of the State to enrich Italy’s cultural heritage through purchases and recoveries as well as those made by private collectors through bequests and donations. Over the years, the State has continued (anonymously at times and with abundant media coverage at others) to purchase works of art, property and archaeological areas pursuant to the current legislation: registration with the heritage of recovered archaeological goods, exercising pre-emptive rights on sales, purchases at export offices or direct negotiations, ...

NUTRIRE L´IMPERO. STORIE DI ALIMENTAZIONE DA ROMA E POMPEI (FEEDING THE EMPIRE. TALES OF FOOD FROM ROME AND POMPEI)

October 6th, 2015

The exhibit at Rome’s Ara Pacis was created for the occasion of the EXPO 2015 and explores nutrition during the Imperial Age when the first globalization of consumer goods developed around the Mediterranean basin. What and how did the ancient Romans eat? How did they transport thousands of tons of supplies from the remotest corners of the earth? How did they manage to get them up the Tiber River and into the heart of the city? And how could they preserve them all year round? These and many other questions are ...
