There are approximately 120 works of art on display that present a vivid impression of the essential characteristics of the first Quadrennial editions and the tendencies in the art world in Italy during the 1930s. Alongside the artworks in the exhibit there are historical documents and images of crucial importance from the Quadrennial Foundation and the Luce-Cinecittà Institute, the partners who were instrumental in making this exhibition possible since they possess an extraordinary legacy of documents, photographs and films that truly convey the atmosphere and importance of those events as well as a view of daily life during that decade. Catalogues, press reviews, letters, documents and original film clips as well as a video installation by Roland Sejko created specifically for the occasion offer spectators a chance to better understand an extremely complex moment in history during which transformations in the city’s urban planning and architecture played a fundamental role in educating and gaining the consent of the people.

April 19th, 2016

Museo di Roma preserves loose sheets and bound copies of the lithographs included in “Un an à Rome et dans ses environs” (A year in Rome and its surroundings).
