DAVID LACHAPELLE. DOPO IL DILUVIO (AFTER THE FLOOD)
The great American photographer is returning to the Palazzo delle Esposizioni after an absence of over 15 years with one of the most prestigious and expansive retrospective exhibits that has ever been dedicated to his work. Approximately 150 works are on exhibit, some of which are completely unknown while others have not been previously displayed in any museum. Many of the chosen works are also “large-size” instalments. The exhibit focuses upon the artist’s output since 2006, the year he completed the monumental series entitled “The Deluge” which marks a profound turning point in the work of David LaChapelle. With the creation of “The Deluge, inspired by Michelangelo’s fresco painting at the Sistine Chapel, LaChapelle returns to conceiving a work for the sole purpose of exhibiting it in an art gallery or museum – works that are not commissioned nor destined to appear in the pages of a fashion magazine or advertising campaign.
