TIEPOLO: I COLORI DEL DISEGNO – THE COLOURS OF DRAWING
For the very first time in Rome, the magnificent halls of the Capitolini Museum are hosting an exhibit that thoroughly illustrates the inventive and productive dynamics of Giambattista Tiepolo, one of the greatest engravers and painters of 18th century Venice. An impressive number of pages on loan from museums, foundations and private collections make up the four sections of an exhibition which gathers drawings and water colours according to key themes and then divides them by their range of technical methods: from the project or ‘thoughts’ to ‘memories’ and ‘amusements’. There are also pictorial and innovative comments of his sons Giandomenico and Lorenzo, used as exercises to emulate the work of their father. In addition, there is a calibrated selection of paintings whose purpose is to introduce and in some way represent the “painted outcome” of each type of sketch on display.
