TURNER. OPERE DELLA TATE (WORKS FROM TATE)

May 23rd, 2018

26-08-TURNER.-OPERE-DELLA-TATE-_ENG

A unique collection, expressing the intimate and reserved side of J.M.W. Turner (23 April 1775 ‒ 19 December 1851), donated in its entirety to Great Britain and preserved at Tate Britain in London. This exhibition marks the beginning of a major collaboration between Tate and Chiostro del Bramante. Known today as the ‘Turner Bequest’, many of the works on display come from the artist’s personal studio and were created over the years for his “own pleasure”, to quote art critic John Ruskin’s lovely definition. An aesthetic and visual pleasure that perpetuated memories of Turner’s journeys, emotions and glimpses of landscapes seen during his sojourns abroad. In fact, the artist used to work in the open air during the warmer months and shut himself in his studio during the winter to replicate everything he had seen in real life on canvas.

Over 80 works by the Catalan genius which have never been on display in Italy until now will be on view at Rome’s Chiostro del Bramante, 50 of which are large oil paintings of astounding beauty, ceramics, bronzes and watercolours. THE ORIENTALISTS. Wonders and Discoveries of 19th century Italian Art

November 1st, 2011

The Chiostro del Bramante is presenting an exhibition of great relevance even today: The Orientalists. Wonders and Discoveries of 19th century Italian Art, 80 carefully selected works that tell of the Orient through paintings of the 19th century. Chronicles of forbidden pleasures, odalisques, harems and Turkish baths – as told by explorers – set imaginations ablaze in the Old-Country at the time. A desire was growing to know more, to discover and understand lands that were not very far away - geographically speaking - but very remote from a standpoint ...
