I MACCHIAIOLI. LE COLLEZIONI SVELATE (THE COLLECTIONS REVEALED)
The exhibit entitled “I Macchiaioli. Le collezioni svelate” (The Macchiaioli. The Collections Revealed), hosted at Rome’s Chiostro del Bramante, offers the public a chance to view paintings by the Macchiaioli and others for the very first time within the context of the collections which originally held them. Works that belonged to the great collections of the past such as those of Cristiano Banti, Diego Martelli, Rinaldo Carnielo, Edoardo Bruno, Gustavo Sforni, Mario Galli, Enrico Checcucci, Camillo Giussani and Mario Borgiotti are on display. Currently part of private collections for the most part, these represent the core of the movement of Italian painters which took place during the 19th century. Over 110 works are on exhibit: the very best of the immense collections of the great art patrons of the time. These fascinating and eclectic individuals had many interests and all shared a passion for painting. They were entrepreneurs and businessmen who were in love with beauty and we are indebted to them for this opportunity to admire such masterpieces.
