TRAVELLING THE SILK ROAD. Ancient Pathway between the Orient and the West
This exhibition was organised in collaboration with New York’s American Museum of Natural History. It traces the long voyage from the Orient to the West between 600-1300 A.D., presenting the multitude of cultures that roused the Silk Road through the reconstruction of four representative cities: Chang’an (today known as Xi’an), the cosmopolitan capital of the Chinese Tang dynasty; Turfen, a city-oasis in the Gobi Desert; Samarkand, a large trading outpost and cultural centre; and Baghdad, the capital of the Islamic world and Caliphate. A special section created exclusively for the Italian exhibit takes an in-depth look at the relationship between several Italian cities and the Far East during the final centuries of the Middle Ages.
