TOTÒ GENIO
The Totò Genio exhibit commemorates one of the greatest Italian artists of the 20th century, Antonio de Curtis, better known by his stage name Totò, on the fiftieth anniversary of his death. Personal documents, memorabilia, letters, sketches, costumes, photographs, installations and testimonials are all elements of an exhibit that takes us back in time to the universe of Totò – telling spectators of this master’s life, his passion and his loves. The man was a consummate artist, a multifaceted and versatile figure: monumental movie and theatre actor, poet and composer. The exhibit also illustrates his enduring relationship with his native city of Naples and his deep love of animals, especially dogs – a love he shared with his life partner Franca Faldini. Personal photographs, original documents and the newspaper articles printed during his lifetime all describe the more private Totò – a generous man who loved taking care of animals and the most vulnerable creatures. The exhibit also includes his poetry – such as the renowned ‘A livella – and songs like Malafemmena which he composed in 1951 and has been recorded by hundreds of different vocalists and musicians.
