LA DOLCE VITTI: AN EXHIBIT TO CELEBRATE THE LIFE, STYLE AND FILMS OF THE ROMAN ACTRESS
Monica Vitti is probably the actress who best succeeded in uniting the two split souls of Italy’s finest film genres: auteur films – a genre whose content and language is ambitious and refined – and the Commedia all’Italiana. These two souls are often divided and incompatible but they were incorporated in the single body of this actress in a spontaneous way. In this fusion, Monica Vitti has been, and is, a unique artist as can be seen in her dozens of different incarnations. La Dolce Vitti describes the absolute versatility and magic of Vitti’s art through a multi-media and fully immersive exhibition itinerary that is both chronological and theme-related. At the very heart of the exhibit are 70 magnificent photographs on loan from the most prestigious public archives such as the Istituto Luce Historical Archives, the Silvio D’Amico Academy of Dramatic Arts and the Centre of Experimental Cinematography as well as from private collections such as the Reporters Associates, the Enrico Appetito Archives and other fundamental establishments like the personal collections of Elisabetta Catalano and Umberto Pizzi.
