CAMPIDOGLIO. MITO, MEMORIA, ARCHEOLOGIA (THE CAPITOLINE HILL. MYTH, MEMORY, ARCHAEOLOGY)
The exhibit at Rome’s Capitoline Museums reconstructs the sweeping transformations of the Capitoline Hill starting with the mythical and romantic vision that the sacred Hill has always inspired in artists, antique dealers and scholars throughout Europe up until the early 19th century. The exhibition is divided into six main sections: Mythical and romantic vision; Caffarellis and the Prussians with their properties; The proclamation of Rome as Capital City; The new role of the Capitoline Hill; The activity of the Governorate; Archaeological research.
The most recent history of this lesser known portion of the Capitoline Hill is revealed through historical and artistic works preserved in the archives while a special section focuses upon the recent archaeological finds which led to the reconstruction of the ancient decorations of the Temple of Jupiter.
