BIZHAN BASSIRI – SPECCHIO SOLARE–NOOR (SUN MIRROR)
The Specchio Solare sculpture is back in Italy after having been the protagonist of Bassiri’s solo exhibit held at Tehran’s AUN Gallery last September. Now on display at Rome’s Carlo Bilotti Museum, the work comes into contact with the city in full bloom to create a bond of continuity between the two capital cities and cultures. Bassiri is an exponent of both since he was born in Tehran and moved to Rome at the age of 20. The term Noor is an obvious reference to the natural light linking Bizhan Bassiri’s Specchio Solare (Sun Mirror) sculpture to the area surrounding it – freeing it from its main function of a reflecting surface in order to transform it into a place in which light itself takes on a form. The Persian-Italian artist created an indication of continuity in space on the door of the Carlo Bilotti Museum that generates an opening onto a new dimension while triggering an infinite series of references between real and imaginary.
