SEAN SCULLY. CHANGE AND HORIZONTALS
The National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rome is hosting an exhibit of works by Irish artist Sean Scully organized by New York’s Drawing Center. The exhibit is also touring other European cities. A selection of drawings from 1974-75 will be on display as well as two paintings from the same period and a selection of pages from the artist’s notebooks. It is possible to observe the evolution of these works inasmuch as their composition, colour and gesture in order to better understand his particular style and technique. Scully’s oil painting consists of a brushstroke that is slightly dense to create a structured surface and his paintings are often composed of various panels and abstract. He is one of the world’s most acclaimed and exhibited artists.
