PIETRO FORTUNA – S.I.L.O.S
The purpose of this exhibit’s project is to reconstruct the career of the artist born in Padua in 1950 who lives and works in both Rome and Brussels. It presents a retrospective view of the themes and essential elements of his work. This is not a chronological critique but an observatory which focuses upon how the elements of process and the design have always been prominent in Pietro Fortuna’s artistic output. The series of works on display (assembled under the title of S.I.L.O.S., a series created in 2017 specifically for this occasion) condenses the sense of making as a practice as well as a theoretical core, as a claim of independence, as the possibility and the right for art to be unproductive. Fortuna’s humanism takes its distance from that individualism which happens during an exchange between privileged questions and necessary answers. Perhaps it is here that we can find the reasons behind his thinking: making coincides with time and space for a ceremony that is closer to life and how this is manifested. Ronchi explains, “Making, in this case and in others, is a gesture which is carried out and asks nothing of time even though it makes use of it”.
