MAURIZIO PIERFRANCESCHI. L’UOMO E L’ALBERO (MAN AND THE TREE)
The exhibit is in total harmony with the Orangerie of Villa Borghese – starting with its very title – and is presenting a selection of the artist’s works that illustrate an entire career dedicated to exploring man’s relationship with nature, architecture and the landscape. Over fifty works by Maurizio Pierfranceschi are on display. The exhibit’s title, L’uomo e l’albero (man and the tree), was chosen in reference to a small oil painting on canvas – the artist’s first work – introduced in 1985 at Rome’s Galleria Ferro di Cavallo. “Loyalty to our roots”, as Lorenza Trucchi defines it, has been at the heart of Pierfranceschi’s artistic pursuit ever since. It is transformed cyclically year after year. Man and nature are represented by the artist on paper, wood and canvas. They reflect one another as they are combined and blended together until they become a patchwork of colour and material which appears spontaneous and with a life of its own notwithstanding a formal construction.
