The protagonists of this fourth appointment with the review that explores the artistic quests of Italian artists who rose to fame in the 1990s are Simone Berti (born in Adria, 1966) and Cuoghi Corsello (Monica Cuoghi, born in Bologna, 1965 – Claudio Corsello, born in Bologna, 1964). Berti has been conducting his artistic research since the 90s. It originated with the concept of precariousness, an appeal so powerful that it has evolved into a generational issue and influenced the work of many of his fellow artists. If his initial works dealt with the questions of uncertainty and social exclusion, portraying people with their immediate families, over time his imagery has become populated with figures from nature and the landscape that are having trouble keeping their balance: animals, architectural elements and mechanisms that develop into surreal shapes. The artist has created paintings for the MACRO which express his reflections upon the relations of the painted form by creating an exchange between the shapes sculpted into our collective imagery and the abstract signs of a visual design which evoke works from the remotest past and 20th century pictorial experiments. The final result is a collection of icons that stand halfway between the ancient and contemporary worlds in which the classification of time is surpassed by the harmony between colour and shape that the artist joins together by stretching beyond any aesthetic conviction.
