GIORGIO ORTONA. NOMI, COSE E CITTÀ (NAMES, THINGS AND CITIES)
Rome’s Macro Testaccio is hosting an exhibit where Ortona displays a kind of spinning census of his preferred hunting ground, the metropolitan area. The presentation is a sort of obsession for categorizing which, as the title suggests, blissfully recalls the children’s game “Nomi, cose e città” (a game similar to “Scattergories”) that was so popular a few decades ago. Our artist also sees it as an irresistible allusion to childhood. The essence of the exhibit is based upon a series of expansive views of the city of Rome – dedicated to its small buildings and construction sites while outfitting develops into a dimensional short circuit since the works on display range from postcard format to cinemascope layout. It is the triumph of commonplace anonymity whose only protagonist is painting. Meticulous painting like that of a venerable artist founded substantially on the analytical and constructive scalpel of illustration.
