STANZE D’ARTISTA. CAPOLAVORI DEL ‘900 ITALIANO (THE ARTIST’S CHAMBERS. 20TH CENTURY ITALIAN MASTERPIECES)
These are rooms in which entire poetic worlds come back to life thanks to the masterpieces at the Gallery of Modern Art and others on loan from prestigious private collections. Approximately sixty sculptures, paintings and graphic works are on exhibit, some of which are being shown for the first time such as Massimo Campigli’s Le Spose dei Marinai (1934), Ardengo Soffici’s Campi e Colline (1925) and Marzo burrascoso (1926-27) as well as Ottone Rosai’s Paese (1923). This exhibit is pursuant to the Gallery’s standard policy of exhibiting works on rotation (which has been effective since its reopening in 2011) in order to allow the public to discover important portions of its vast artistic wealth. The concept of ‘the artist’s chambers’ is not abstract, however. These are real rooms in which art dating to the first half of the 20th century is told by twelve of its most important exponents: Mario Sironi, Arturo Martini, Ferruccio Ferrazzi, Giorgio de Chirico, Alberto Savinio, Carlo Carrà, Ardengo Soffici, Ottone Rosai, Massimo Campigli, Marino Marini, Fausto Pirandello and Scipione.
