PABLO ATCHUGARRY
The Imperial Fora Museum – Trajan’s Market in Rome is hosting a large-scale retrospective exhibition dedicated to Uruguayan sculptor Pablo Atchugarry, promoted by Rome’s Department of Culture and Tourism, the Capitoline Superintendence of Cultural Heritage, the IILA (Italo-Latino American Institute) and the Fundación Pablo Atchugarry with the sponsorship of the Uruguay Embassy in Italy. The exhibit presents 51 works – 10 of which are displayed outdoors. Almost all of these works were sculpted from Carrara marble, the material which has served as a cardinal source for the unique masterpieces from Antiquity and the Renaissance preserved in Rome. The talent and artistry of Atchugarry signals an intention to restore an ancient and magical relationship with sculpture. The master’s delicately ascending creations evoke undeniable references to the classicism that lives deep inside us all and cultivate the sensibility of those who admire the “eternal marbles”.
