ALIGHIERO BOETTI
“Here in Rome, I am a foreigner. I’m someone visiting which is why I am always very aware of where I am”
In 1982, Alighiero Boetti used these words to define his relationship with Rome. Today Rome salutes him with an exposition featuring 30 of his works, many of which are being shown for the first time or are rarely displayed. They will be hosted at Rome’s MAXXI from 23 January to 6 October 2013. Special attention is being paid to Boetti’s relationship with Rome and with the 80’s culture. This particular culture during those years and – above all – in Rome, succeeded in imbuing itself in sensitive folklore of an Oriental flavour. This exhibit places emphasis upon the connections between the artist’s work and that of Francesco Clemente and Luigi Ottani, presented as a “dialogue” with those by Boetti, as an exploration of those splendid cultural relationships shared by this generation of artists.
