The exhibition space of the Fondazione Sorgente Group located in Rome’s Via Tritone is hosting an event that is one-of-a-kind. For the first time in Italy, the most sophisticated developments in computer science are being applied to an ancient sculpture. Thanks to multimedia technology, the statue of Athena Nike is able to come back to life and be displayed in its original beauty with three-dimensional projections based upon complex graphic studies.
The three-dimensional installation virtually reconstructs the statue and brings it back to life by supplying missing parts. Projections set in Greece during the second half of the 5th century B.C., the age of the Athenian democracy of Pericles and the building of the Parthenon, serve as a backdrop. The virtual reconstruction of the sculpture is by Paco Lanciano and the Mizar lighting team.
