PETROLIO by XAVIER BUENO
Rome’s Musei Capitolini is hosting a work by the extremely refined painter Xavier Bueno which has never been on display to the public. In a way that could be compared to a cinematic sequence, this work tells of the production chain of Petroleum: from the localization of the site and wells to the stages of extraction and refining. The intention of Xavier Bueno is celebratory and dreamlike at the same time: “Petrolio” transforms the coarse concreteness of the processing of crude oil into an emblematic image of the industrial process and the backbreaking efforts of the workers; they become solemn figures that now convey the memory of the pioneering times of Italy’s economic boom.
