COLUMNA MUTÃTIO – LA SPIRALE
The installation designed by artist Luminiţa Țăranu and inspired by Trajan’s Column was created specifically for the “Trajan. Building the Empire, Creating Europe” exhibit hosted at Trajan’s Market & The Imperial Forum Museum. The message of the Romanian born artist who lives and works in Rome is to convey the concept of the “mutation” of significance that takes place as history unwinds: Trajan’s Column was erected to commemorate the victory of the Romans in the Dacian Wars and over time became the symbol of the inseparable historical link between Italy and Romania; if in the past it evoked the two wars that Roman emperor Trajan fought against Decebalus, King of Dacia, today this Roman masterpiece is also visual evidence of the origin of the Romanian people. The installation is accompanied by four paintings/testimonials – essential moments of the creative process – for the purpose of creating harmony between the three-dimensional nature of the Spiral and the two-dimensional nature of painting: Gods, Symbols, Writings and Itinerary.
