ARTISTI DELL’OTTOCENTO: TEMI E RISCOPERTE (NINETEENTH CENTURY ARTISTS: THEMES AND NEW DISCOVERIES)
This prestigious exposition presents a considerable number of works by 19th century artists. The pieces on display are of great interest, some of which have never been exhibited before and are unknown to the general public. A portion of the exhibition focuses upon works by Neapolitan artist Vincenzo Gemito (1852-1929), of whom the Gallery has an extensive collection: two halls have been dedicated to his sculptures and paintings. The exhibit is offering an “across the board” viewing of these 19th century works featuring themes that are mostly identified with the culture of figurative art of the time: classical inspiration, portraits, scenes depicting the intimate nature of the daily life of the people and – in a certain sense – the Verismo painting style from northern to southern Italy with particular attention to the role Rome played during this period. Alongside more famous Italian artists such as Nino Costa, Giulio Aristide Sartorio and Angelo Morbelli, the exhibit presents “niche” artists like Adriano Ferraresi, Augusto Bompiani and Paride Pascucci who will astonish spectators with their singular masterpieces.
