ARTISTI ALL’OPERA (ARTISTS AT THE OPERA)
An exhibit that celebrates the relationship between Rome’s Teatro dell’ Opera and some of the greatest artists of the 20th century. A gallery of marvellous creations for the stage by some of the greatest name in 20th century art: from Pablo Picasso, Renato Guttuso, Giorgio De Chirico and Afro to Alberto Burri, Giacomo Manzù, Mario Ceroli, Arnaldo Pomodoro and William Kentridge. Aside from the display of stage settings and costumes by these magnificent artists and small-scale extraordinary masterpieces, sketches, models /scale models, the exhibit also presents the history of the Rome’s Teatro dell’ Opera which has consistently produced both standard Italian repertoire as well as lesser known works. Spectators will also have a chance to observe the work of master craftsmen, recreated through brilliant outfitting that succeeds in reversing the normal perspective. The archive collection at the Teatro dell’Opera, which contains over 60,000 costumes and 11,000 sketches as well as films from the Istituto Luce Archives, is open to public viewing. Visitors are granted access to the theatre’s backstage area and can get a close-up look at what the audience views from their seats.
