BRUNO LIBERATORE: AN ENVIRONMENTAL DIALOGUE WITH TRAJAN’S MARKETS
The conflicting yet constantly fascinating relationship between humans and the environment is represented through the innovative shapes and volumes – so distant from ordinary sculptural figurativism – created by Bruno Liberatore, one of the most original artists on the contemporary sculpture horizon in Italy. Abstract compositions that evoke associations with live nature are not conceptualized as a backdrop for an event but as a “substance of sculpture” in and of itself. Approximately 25 large-scale works in bronze, iron and terracotta are on display along the outer portion of the complex (Trajan’s Markets) facing the Imperial Fora and Capitoline Hill. They “emerge” from the ground and are directed upwards, linked closely within the confines of the ancient walls.
