L’ESSENZIALE VERITÀ DELLE COSE. FRANCESCO TROMBADORI (SIRACUSA 1886 – ROMA 1961) (THE ESSENTIAL TRUTH OF THINGS)
This anthology tells of the relationship between the painter and the areas he loved and painted of Rome, his choice of residence from the early 20th century to the end of his life. The 60 paintings on exhibit were painted between 1915and 1961 and are on loan from Italy’s most prestigious public and private collections. The show also features 25 drawings, books, exhibition catalogues and newspaper articles from the artist’s archives preserved in his former studio at Villa Strohl-Fern. Although Francesco Trombadori was not a native Roman, the capital city was his source of inspiration for many paintings. Above all, it was a place where he could take part in the intense artistic and cultural discussions of his time alongside writers, critics and fellow artists. Many art exhibits and artistic-cultural magazines were shaped by these debates. The painter actively participated in the national artistic debate since its inception in the dynamic environment of the so-called Terza Saletta of the Caffè Aragno during the first decade of the 20th century where he also had the opportunity to further his training by frequenting the offices of “Il Convito”, the art and literature magazine founded by Adolfo De Bosis whose collaborators included Gabriele d’Annunzio and Angelo Conti.
