UMBERTO PASSERETTI, UN PRESENTE ANTICHISSIMO (A MOST ARCHAIC PRESENT)
Contemporary artist in every respect, Umberto Passeretti has conversed with Roman classicism and with the memory of the past in general since 1985. It is for this very reason that an area as symbolic of “Roman distinctiveness” as the Mercati di Traiano – Museo dei Fori Imperiali was chosen as the ideal place to host about twenty of his works in the Grand Hall of the museum and in the Central Portion. The artist has created a tribute to this extraordinary place for the event curated by Gabriele Simongini by using a “Prigione” as the subject for the work. The paintings (mainly oils and tempera on panels as well as several acrylics) are part of the “Anatomy of Drapery” series. In his works of art, the superb sculptures of the past are converted into paintings with an evident predominance of draped material in motion – throbbing with new life that seems to be on the verge of commencing.
