IMAGO MUNDI – LUCIANO BENETTON COLLECTION. THE ART OF HUMANITY
Contemporary African Art from Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gambia, Kenya, Morocco, Mauritania, Mozambique, Senegal, Somalia, South Africa, Sudan, Tanzania, Tunisia, Zanzibar and Zimbabwe. Sixteen countries, 13 collections and over 2,000 artists with 10×12 centimetre works of art. This is a rich artistic portrait sui generis of Africa – among historical roots and innovation, local visual cultures and globalization. Imago Mundi, the global art project promoted by Luciano Benetton and the Fondazione Benetton Studi Ricerche, is the evocative metaphor so dear to Nigerian writer Chinua Achebe chosen as the title for 13 collections of contemporary art from 16 African countries on display in the halls of Rome’s Carlo Bilotti Museum.
