Some 200 photographs form the core of the exhibition entitled “Picasso images. The works, the artist, the character” (Picasso images. Le opere, l’artista, il personaggio), which not only takes a look at the career of an exceptional artist from a novel perspective, but also offers a particularly intimate portrait of a man who was able to construct his international renown on his own. The three sections that make up the exhibition route seek to examine the various connections the greatest artist of the 20th century established with photography: from his early attempts to use the medium as a resource for taking an in-depth look at the world around him, to assist him in his work and to illustrate the progress of his creations, to his fruitful artistic collaboration with avant-garde photographers, including Brassaï and Dora Maar, who then became his partner. Finally, the last section illustrates the mature years of Picasso’s art, from the post-war period onwards, during which he strove to cultivate his own personal image as an artist, echoed in the illustrated press, which helped boost his popularity and legendary status.
