Marisa and Mario Merz are two of the most important protagonists in the history of 20th century art. Throughout their careers, which began within the Arte Povera experience, Marisa and Mario Merz never separated their everyday lives from artistic creation. Their marriage flourished under the circumstances of a very close relationship and an ongoing intellectual exchange notwithstanding the clear distinction between their individual works. The relationship between the two artists lasted over fifty years and also yielded collaborative works such as some of the panels by Mario Merz on display. These all interact with wax sculptures, heads and installations by Marisa – a definite demonstration of a collaboration between the two that was steady, albeit not always openly declared.
