DALL’OGGI AL DOMANI. 24 ORE NELL’ARTE CONTEMPORANEA (FROM TODAY TO TOMORROW (DALL’OGGI AL DOMANI). 24 HOURS IN CONTEMPORARY ART)
The exhibit’s title was borrowed from a work by Alighiero Boetti and the show itself offers spectators an opportunity to reflect upon the tremendous concept of time. The notion of time has always been one that artists from all eras have held very dear. With the dawn of the 20th century, time has gradually taken on an increasing urgency. From today to Tomorrow focuses mainly on “today”, how time passes during the day – a portion of our present that we can control. Approximately seventy masterpieces of modern and contemporary art by both Italian and international artists are on display at the MACRO. The works were all inspired by a reflection upon the role Time plays in our lives and the instruments man has invented to measure it, especially the clock and calendar. These works embrace many different artistic idioms and means of expression such as painting, photography, videos, diary entries, music, embroidery and digital data processing which all suggest points that are well worth some deep thought. The exhibit’s main sponsor is Bulgari whose contribution was a large-scale installation created for the maison by the Anglo-Iraqui architect Zaha Hadid who died in March of this year.
