FRANCESCO CASORATI OPERA INCISA (ENGRAVED WORKS) 1952 – 1995
For Francesco Casorati, graphic art was a parallel environment of painting and never a subordinate. One of the most brilliant interpreters of his work, Luigi Carlucci, remarked that “the experiences of the engraver at times surpassed or even preceded the work of a painter”. Casorati was completely free and in harmony with the international art scene as he explored the full potential of engraved graphic art and dedicated his life to numerous experiments using a variety of materials, different types of etchings, marks and colours. Examples of this range of materials and methods are the base printing of “Battaglia” (1954) or the two versions of his “Battaglia dei tre cavalieri” (1957). The artist maintained the same freedom of expression during his informal period. Sheets of his work were displayed at the Sala Personale during the 1962 Venice Biennale.
