FLORENCE HENRI
The National Roman Museum at the Baths of Diocletian is hosting a monographic exhibition dedicated to Florence Henri (1893 – 1982) which reveals a photographer and artist who navigated the last century as a precursor. Her photographs are proof of how this means of expression was able to thoroughly transform the visual idiom between the two World Wars. They display a temperament that aspires towards freedom and versatility but immune to compromise at the same time. The 140 works on exhibit in the Great Halls of the Baths of Diocletian in Rome shed light upon the various work methods and the experimental dimension adopted by this extraordinary artist. A remarkable group of photographs on Ancient Rome offer a theatrical dimension of the city which harmonizes with the monumental space of the age-old halls of these Baths.
