After the extraordinary success at the Palazzo Reale in Milan, the magnificent exhibition of Edward Hopper is in Rome from the 16th February to the 13th of June in the Museo Fondazione Roma, with important changes: the arrival of more masterpieces from the American museums, an original and fascinating setting and a new edition of the catalog.
The exhibition, promoted by Fondazione Roma, is followed by Carter Foster, curator of the Whitney Museum. The history of the whitney Museum and the artist Edward Hopper are intrinsically connected: the first personal exhibition of Edward Hopper in 1920 was held at the Whitney Studio Club.
In addition to the 160 pieces at the exhibition in Milan, in Rome will come other great masterpieces, such as The beautiful Self-Portrait (1925-1930), The Sheridan Theatre (1937), New York Interior (1921), Seven A.M. (1948), South Carolina Morning (1955), next to preparatory sketches. Extraordinary paintings that complete the group of famous pieces already in Milan. A journey that crosses the entire production of Edward Hopper and all the techniques of an artist now considered a classic painter of the twentieth century.
The works are mainly from the Whitney Museum, but also by the major American museums including the Brooklyn Museum of Art, New York , Terra Foundation for American Art of Chigago and the Columbus Museum of Art.
Divided into seven sections, the exhibition traces the entire production of Hopper from the years of study in Paris until the “classical” period and best known as the 30′s, 40′s and 50′s concluding with the large and intense images of recent years.
